Jimmy Mance (C.J. Thomason) was a fisherman on Harper's Island, and Abby Mills's high school sweetheart. His attempt to rekindle his relationship with her when she returns for her best friend's wedding draw him into the web of danger and intrigue the wedding party has brought with it to the island.

History

Teenage Dreams

Jimmy and Abby began dating in high school. Abby's parents didn't entirely approve of the roguish, reckless Jimmy, which did nothing to dampen the ardor Abby felt for him.

The relationship progressed to the point where Jimmy and Abby planned to go "camping" (an island euphemism for sex). Their camping trip was derailed, however, by John Wakefield's rampage. Jimmy and Abby witnessed the marina explosion from a forest trail and hurried to the scene. Once there, Abby's father Sheriff Mills ordered them both home.

Abby and Jimmy parted ways, but Jimmy by chance encountered Abby again as he drove back home. He arrived on the scene just after Wakefield had dispatched fisherman Randall Martin, whom he had taken hostage. Abby had been crouching in the brush off the path when the killing occurred, and her shrill gasp had alerted Wakefield to her presence. Realizing Abby was in deadly danger, Jimmy called out to distract Wakefield, giving Abby time to escape.

Jimmy never told Abby he'd known she was there, not wanting her to feel like she owed him anything for saving her life.

Following the murders and Wakefield's presumed death, Charlie made arrangements to send Abby to Los Angeles to live with her grandmother. Jimmy was crushed at her departure, and raced to the docks to say goodbye to her the night her ferry left. Abby, wracked by guilt and grief, didn't even meet his eyes as the boat took off. She didn't contact him once for seven years after.
